Bridging/ Extended Courses at Unisa

Bridging courses at Unisa are regarded as extended courses. Unisa has a variety of extended courses designed for students who couldn’t get accepted for the main causes. You still need to meet all the requirements for a particular extended course though.

Here are the requirements for extended courses at UNISA:

  1. General Criteria:
    • Must be a South African citizen.
    • Must be registered for a qualification or module that offers the Extended Science Pathway (ESP).
    • First-time registration for a qualification at tertiary level.
  2. Extended Science Pathway (ESP) Criteria:
    • First-time registration for a qualification that offers the ESP.
    • Mathematics or English achievement in Grade 12:
      • 49% or less in Mathematics or English at NSC level (HC), or
      • 59% or less at Standard Grade (SG).
    • A matric point score:
      • 24 or less for Bachelor’s degrees.
      • 20 or less for Diploma qualifications.
  3. Score Calculation Steps:
    • Step 1: Write down your English language paper score.
    • Step 2: Add the points from five other subjects (prioritise prescribed subjects for your qualification).
    • Step 3: If your total score is 24 or lower for Bachelor’s qualifications, or 20 or lower for Diploma qualifications, you qualify for Extended Science support.
