On this page, you will find the requirements for a condoned pass at a TVET College.
Pass Mark: The pass mark set by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) for all subjects in Report 191 programmes is 40%.
Supplementary Exams: If you score at least 30%, you can qualify for a supplementary exam. But if you get below 30%, you’ll need to repeat the subject on a Full-Time or Part-Time basis.
Maximum Subjects:
- Business Studies: You can take up to 5 subjects (Full-Time or Part-Time), including supplementary exams.
- Engineering Studies: For Full-Time, you can take up to 5 subjects. For Part-Time, it’s 5 subjects. This also includes supplementary exams.
Rewriting Subjects: You can only rewrite a maximum of 2 subjects during one exam session.
Repetition Policy: You can repeat a subject twice (Full-Time). If you fail again, you’ll need to switch to Part-Time or supplementary exams. You cannot register for a full-time course until you pass.
Attendance: You must have 80% attendance in all classes.
Sub-Minimum Year Mark: You need to meet the DHET’s minimum year mark to be eligible to write the final exam.
Condonement:
- If you score 38% or 39% in just one subject, it can be condoned to a pass, but all your other subjects must be passed.
- You must apply to the DHET for approval of the condonement.
- You can only get 2 condonements per qualification.
