UJ Online Application 2025 Guide

With a choice of over 178 undergraduate programmes across eight faculties, the University of Johannesburg (UJ) offers a comprehensive range of internationally respected qualifications in Art, Design and Architecture; Business and Economics; Education; Engineering and the Built Environment; Health Sciences; Humanities; Law; and Science. Below is a step-by-step guide to completing your online application for 2025-2026.

Step 1: Check Programme Requirements

Start by exploring UJ’s programmes and making sure you meet the admission requirements for your selected course. Each programme has specific requirements in terms of National Senior Certificate (NSC) or Independent Examinations Board (IEB) subjects. Ensure that you meet the minimum subject levels as listed in the UJ prospectus. If you have a different school-leaving qualification (like NCV, NASCA, N3/N4/N5/N6 results, or international certificates), consult the faculty requirements or contact UJ for guidance on eligibility.

Step 2: Access the Online Application Portal

Go to www.uj.ac.za/Apply and select the “Apply” button to start your online application. There is no fee for online applications. If you already have a UJ student number from a previous application, contact the UJ Call Centre at 011 559 4555 to ensure your contact details are updated in the system, which will allow you to receive a PIN for completing the application.

Step 3: Complete the Online Application Form

Fill in the online form carefully, providing accurate personal and academic details. Choose two study options in order of preference and double-check that you meet the minimum admission requirements for each. UJ bases provisional admission on final Grade 11 results (for applicants currently in Grade 12) or final Grade 12 results (for those who have completed matric). Final admission is determined by your final Grade 12 results.

Step 4: Submit Required Documents

Upload the necessary documents directly on the portal, including your NSC or IEB results (or equivalent). Keep in mind that all communication regarding your application status will be sent via email, so monitor your inbox closely. You can also check your application status on the UJ website using your ID or student number.

Step 5: Wait for Communication from UJ

After submission, UJ will review your application. If it meets the requirements and there’s space in your selected programme, you’ll receive an email informing you of your application status. Please note that registration in January will depend on final admission.

Important Notes on Application Fees and Deadlines

While no application fee is required for online applications, applicants using paper-based applications must pay an R200 fee. For undergraduate programmes and student accommodation, the closing date is 31 October 2024 at 12:00. Make sure to submit your application by this deadline for full consideration.
